IZAZ 2024 – Integrating ZooMS and Zooarchaeology” workshop

IZAZ 2024 – Integrating ZooMS and Zooarchaeology” workshop
Description

Following the success of the first “Integrating ZooMS and zooarchaeology” workshop organized in April 2023 at the University of Kent in Canterbury, UK (for more information, see https://www.palaeozooarch.com/workshops and IZAZ 2023), a second edition will take place this year in Paris, France.

In 2024, the IZAZ workshop coincides with the 15th anniversary of the introduction of ZooMS (Zooarchaeology by Mass Spectrometry). In recognition of this milestone, this two-day workshop will offer an in-depth retrospective on the evolution of this method over the last fifteen years, while focusing on its future directions.

Papers and discussions will be led by researchers working in the Pleistocene and Holocene, providing an opportunity for cross-disciplinary collaboration.

PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME

The conference will take place over three days from 19 to 21 November 2024 at the Collège de France in Paris.

The first day will be devoted to presentations by our guest speakers, Matthew Collins and Virginie Sinet-Mathiot.

The second day and the morning of the third will be devoted to papers and case studies on the use of ZooMS in various archaeological contexts.

Finally, the last afternoon will be devoted to a collective discussion of the methodological potential and new applications of this technique, as well as their implications for understanding past human behaviour.
