LACQUA25 will be the annual meeting of the WAS Latin American and Caribbean Chapter. Following the successful previous LACQUA meetings, LACQUA25 will be held for the first time in Chile. LACQUA25 will be held in Puerto Varas, Chile. This country is considered a leader in the aquaculture industry in Latin America. Aquaculture is one of Chile's main economic activities. At a global level, Chile is the seventh country in the world in aquaculture production and the first in America. Salmon is the main aquatic species farmed in the country - Chile is the second largest producer of Atlantic salmon in the world after Norway and the largest producer of coho salmon in the world - but mollusks such as chorito (Chilean mussel), oysters and abalone, and some types of algae are also farmed. The vast majority of Chilean aquaculture production is concentrated in the southern part of the country, mainly in the inland sea of the Los Lagos Region and in the fjords and channels of Aysén and Magallanes, but the activity is also present in northern Chile.
