Frequently asked

The ones worth answering plainly. If yours is not here, write to us.

What does it cost?

Nothing, for researchers and for organizers. Listing a conference is free and always will be. Organizers can pay for visibility in clearly labelled placements — the prices are published — but nothing is ever conditional on paying.

Does paying move a conference up the search results?

No, and not as a matter of policy: the code that ranks results has no access to campaign or payment data at all. Promoted placements sit in a separate labelled region. If something is not labelled, nobody paid for it.

Who can add a conference?

Anyone with an account, including someone who is not the organizer. A person on our team reads every submission before it is published, usually within two working days. The organizer can claim the listing afterwards.

Why is a conference I think is predatory listed here?

Our review checks that a conference is real, resolvable and clearly described; it is not a judgement on academic quality, which is not ours to make. If you think a listing is misleading, tell us and say why — we act on specifics. What we do instead of gatekeeping is publish enough detail for you to judge, and refuse to run the urgency mechanics that make every listing look equally pressing.

Why are there no countdown timers?

Because they are the single clearest signal of a conference mill, and because they are useless for a decision that takes months. Dates are shown as the time you have to prepare — weeks, or the date itself — and never as a clock.

What happens to conferences that have already happened?

They stay. Past editions keep their pages, and so do conferences that were cancelled or never returned — the page says which. Someone searching for a conference that stopped running deserves an answer rather than a missing page.

Do I need an account?

Not to search, browse or read anything. You need one to save conferences, be reminded about dates, follow a conference series, or add a listing.

What do you do with what I search for?

Search queries are matched on our own machines and are not sent to any third-party AI service. A search query can reveal what someone is working on before they publish it, which is why this is built the way it is rather than the cheap way. The privacy notice has the detail.

How do I stop the emails?

Reminders, conference updates and the digest all carry an unsubscribe link that works immediately, without logging in. You can also choose exactly what we send from your alerts page, including how far ahead we warn you about a date. Email about your own account or a listing you submitted — a password reset, say — carries no unsubscribe link, because it always still has to reach you.

The dates on a listing are wrong.

Tell us and we will fix it, or claim the listing and edit it yourself if it is your conference. Submission dates are often extended, and we would rather show the corrected date than a tidy wrong one. Contact us.
